Artist's Comments

Food for thoughts.

The french quote can be translated like this:
«The duty of great states is to serve, not to dominate the world.» -Harry Truman

You know, this image has been used quite extensively for political cartoons and such, and when I see it in that form I am saddened because it usually seems to me that the artist is making it appear that the men are the ones who are the ones who exemplify evil America. However, your picture does not bash the men, or America as an whole, but America's present state and where it is leading to. Using the Truman quote really shows how twisted the American political system has gotten right now. Truman is an exalted president who proved how politics can help it's people and others (albeit, there were some mistakes-hindsight is 20/20) to the best of it's ability. The men who raised that flag are also doing their absolute best so that others would not go through what they went through. You're picture really just cuts through all the crap in the political system that is the exact opposite of what they claim to be upholding, where the administration is using politics to cover up what they did, for their own political gains.

Of course, maybe you're idea was different when making the piece. I'm just one viewer.

My point on this poster was to bring to light the paradox that is the american society. On one side, you have the american dream, with some great poeple and great thoughts, and on the other, you have what we have seen from it for the last decade with war and fear.

Your comment, DDshoeshowz, was very interesting. Thanks.
